Bhagavad Gita 1.35
एतान्न हन्तुमिच्छामि घ्नतोऽपि मधुसूदन । अपि त्रैलोक्यराज्यस्य हेतोः किं नु महीकृते ॥
etān na hantum icchāmi ghnato 'pi madhusūdana | api trailokya-rājyasya hetoḥ kiṃ nu mahī-kṛte ||
Translation
I would not kill these, O slayer of Madhu, even if I were killed by them; not even for the sovereignty of the three worlds, much less for the earth.
Reflection
Where are you saying "not for anything" when you mean "not for this"?
Read this verse in its chapter: Chapter One
Ghnato 'pi. Even if killed by them. Trailokya-rājyasya. Even for sovereignty over the three worlds. Hyperbole is the giveaway of a mind that has stopped negotiating with reality and started negotiating with itself. He will not kill them even to save his own life; he will not kill them for any prize imaginable. The arithmetic has been retired. What remains is the absolute, declared once and then defended for the next twelve verses.
