Bhagavad Gita 10.1
श्रीभगवानुवाच | भूय एव महाबाहो शृणु मे परमं वचः | यत्तेऽहं प्रीयमाणाय वक्ष्यामि हितकाम्यया ||
śrī-bhagavān uvāca | bhūya eva mahā-bāho śṛṇu me paramaṁ vacaḥ | yat te'haṁ prīyamāṇāya vakṣyāmi hita-kāmyayā ||
Translation
The Deity said: Once again, O mighty-armed one, hear my supreme word, which I, wishing your welfare, will speak to you who are delighted.
Reflection
Where in your life have you stopped picking at the speaker enough to receive the next teaching?
Read this verse in its chapter: Chapter Ten
Krishna re-opens the teaching. Bhuya eva, once again, signals that what follows is not a fresh subject but a deeper turn of the same one. The previous chapter named Him as the source. This one will show how to recognize Him through the world's finest forms. He notes two things about the listener and one about Himself. Arjuna is priyamana, delighted, the right state for receiving the next layer. Krishna speaks hitakamyaya, out of a wish for Arjuna's good. The teaching is not a display. It is a gift placed where the listener is now able to receive it. The seriousness of these opening words sets the tone for the vibhuti catalogue that will follow. What is coming has been carefully prepared.
