Bhagavad Gita 1.42
सङ्करो नरकायैव कुलघ्नानां कुलस्य च । पतन्ति पितरो ह्येषां लुप्तपिण्डोदकक्रियाः ॥
saṅkaro narakāyaiva kula-ghnānāṃ kulasya ca | patanti pitaro hy eṣāṃ lupta-piṇḍodaka-kriyāḥ ||
Translation
And the intermixture leads the destroyers of the family and the family itself to hell; for their ancestors fall, deprived of the offerings of rice-balls and water.

What future cost do you keep bringing up to avoid today's choice?
Read this verse in its chapter: Chapter One
The cascade reaches the dead. Without descendants performing the rites, the ancestors fall from their place. The argument has now passed through this generation, the next generation, the women, the caste order, and the line of forebears stretching back. Patanti pitaraḥ. The fathers fall. Arjuna is not wrong that an action ripples. He is also using the ripple to delay arriving at the act. The list of consequences will continue for three more verses.
