Chapter 10Verse 18 of 42

Bhagavad Gita 10.18

विस्तरेणात्मनो योगं विभूतिं च जनार्दन | भूयः कथय तृप्तिर्हि शृण्वतो नास्ति मेऽमृतम् ||

vistareṇātmano yogaṁ vibhūtiṁ ca janārdana | bhūyaḥ kathaya tṛptir hi śṛṇvato nāsti me'mṛtam ||

Translation

Tell me again at length, O Janārdana, your yoga and your glory. There is no satiety for me in hearing your words, which are ambrosia.

The closing of Arjuna's request. Tell me again at length your yoga and your vibhuti. There is no fullness for me in listening to your nectar of speech. Trptih nasti, there is no satiety, names a quality of the right kind of listening. Worldly hearing fills up. The mind tires, the ear closes, the heart wants something else. The hearing the chapter is producing does not fill up that way. Each verse leaves the listener readier for the next one rather than less ready. Krishna's words are called amritam, ambrosia. The chapter is now perfectly poised. The catalogue can be given at length because the student is in the only condition that can hold it without spoiling. He has named the limit, accepted it, and asked anyway.

Reflection

What teaching do you find yourself coming back to without ever filling up?
