Bhagavad Gita 11.4
मन्यसे यदि तच्छक्यं मया द्रष्टुमिति प्रभो | योगेश्वर ततो मे त्वं दर्शयात्मानमव्ययम् ||
manyase yadi tac chakyaṁ mayā draṣṭum iti prabho | yogeśvara tato me tvaṁ darśayātmānam avyayam ||
Translation
If you think that it is possible for me to see it, O lord, then, O lord of yoga, show me your imperishable self.

Where do you ask while keeping the choice with the one who can grant it?

Arjuna does not assume the request is grantable. He frames it conditionally. If you think it is possible for me to see, then show me. The two ifs hold the proper limit. He recognizes that some things cannot be granted to every eye and that the lord of yoga is the one who knows whether his eye can take it. Manyase yadi tat shakyam, if you think this is possible. The student leaves the decision to the teacher. The address yogeshvara, lord of yoga, makes the asking specific. The vision will not happen by Arjuna's wish. It will happen by Krishna's grace and Krishna's judgement of fitness. The request closes properly. The next word will be Krishna's.
