Chapter 11Verse 6 of 55

Bhagavad Gita 11.6

पश्यादित्यान्वसून्रुद्रानश्विनौ मरुतस्तथा | बहून्यदृष्टपूर्वाणि पश्याश्चर्याणि भारत ||

paśyādityān vasūn rudrān aśvinau marutas tathā | bahūny adṛṣṭa-pūrvāṇi paśyāścaryāṇi bhārata ||

Translation

Behold the Adityas, the Vasus, the Rudras, the two Ashvins, and the Maruts. Behold many wonders never seen before, O descendant of Bharata.

The named hosts are listed. Adityas, Vasus, Rudras, the two Ashvins, Maruts. The reader who knows the Vedic pantheon recognizes the catalogue. These are the highest beings inside the cosmos, and they are all to be seen inside Krishna. After the named groups Krishna widens it again. Bahuni adrishta-purvani pashya, behold many wonders not seen before. The naming establishes scale and the open clause confirms that the named ones are only a beginning. The whole order of beings that any traditional listener would already revere is being placed within the form Arjuna will see. The reverence Arjuna already has is being relocated. The recipients of his previous worship will be found inside the one to whom he is now talking.

Reflection

Which figures of your reverence belong inside the source, not above it?
