Chapter 13Verse 2 of 34

Bhagavad Gita 13.2

क्षेत्रज्ञं चापि मां विद्धि सर्वक्षेत्रेषु भारत। क्षेत्रक्षेत्रज्ञयोर्ज्ञानं यत्तज्ज्ञानं मतं मम॥

kṣetrajñaṁ cāpi māṁ viddhi sarva-kṣetreṣu bhārata kṣetra-kṣetrajñayor jñānaṁ yat taj jñānaṁ mataṁ mama

Translation

Know me also as the knower of the field in all fields, Bharata. The knowledge of field and knower of the field, that knowledge is my view.

Krishna closes a gap that could have stayed open. The knower behind each body is not many. One knower stands in every field. The local sense of being a self gets reframed as a single cosmic seeing wearing many bodies. Then a second move: knowledge proper is the knowledge of the difference between field and knower. Anything else dressed up as wisdom is decoration. The whole chapter will be a working out of this one definition. Today, when you remember it, ask of any object of awareness: is this field, or is this knower. Even the asking begins to install the difference.

Reflection

Today, when you remember, ask: is this object of awareness field, or is it knower?
