Bhagavad Gita 6.33
अर्जुन उवाच | योऽयं योगस्त्वया प्रोक्तः साम्येन मधुसूदन | एतस्याहं न पश्यामि चञ्चलत्वात्स्थितिं स्थिराम् ||
arjuna uvāca | yo 'yaṁ yogas tvayā proktaḥ sāmyena madhusūdana | etasyāhaṁ na paśyāmi cañcalatvāt sthitiṁ sthirām ||
Translation
Arjuna said: I do not, O destroyer of Madhu! perceive, by reason of fickleness, the steady continuance of this system of devotion which has been declared by you to be equability.
Reflection
What in today's teaching can you not yet picture in your own life, said out loud without dressing it up?
Read this verse in its chapter: Chapter Six
Arjuna interrupts honestly. The whole picture Krishna has just drawn, with its lamp in the windless room and its even sight of all beings, he cannot see how it will hold for him. The reason he gives is his own restlessness. The mind he has, he says, does not stay in the place the teacher is describing. There is something disarming in the admission. He does not pretend the teaching landed when it did not. He says, in front of the divine teacher and the army on both sides, that he cannot picture this version of himself. The verse models the honesty the practice asks for.
