Chapter 6Verse 43 of 47

Bhagavad Gita 6.43

तत्र तं बुद्धिसंयोगं लभते पौर्वदेहिकम् | यतते च ततो भूयः संसिद्धौ कुरुनन्दन ||

tatra taṁ buddhi-saṁyogaṁ labhate paurva-dehikam | yatate ca tato bhūyaḥ saṁsiddhau kuru-nandana ||

Translation

There he obtains a contact with the knowledge which belonged to him in his former body, and then again, O descendant of Kuru! he works for perfection.

What was learned does not have to be earned a second time. In the new life, the understanding he had built in the previous one is restored to him, the verse calls it a re-contact. From that returned floor he begins the work again, this time toward completion. Krishna is closing the worry Arjuna raised. The cloud was not lost. The water in it has not evaporated. It returns to the same body of practice in a new shape. The man does not start where he started before. He starts where he left off. This is the deepest reassurance the chapter offers to anyone afraid that an unfinished effort dies with the body.

Reflection

What understanding has come back to you in this life that feels older than the years you have lived in it?
