Bhagavad Gita 8.15
मामुपेत्य पुनर्जन्म दुःखालयमशाश्वतम् | नाप्नुवन्ति महात्मानः संसिद्धिं परमां गताः ||
mām upetya punar janma duḥkhālayam aśāśvatam | nāpnuvanti mahātmānaḥ saṁsiddhiṁ paramāṁ gatāḥ ||
Translation
Having reached me, the great-souled ones do not come to rebirth, the transient abode of unhappiness, having attained the highest perfection.
Reflection
Where have you been calling the world more than it is?
Read this verse in its chapter: Chapter Eight
For those who have reached Him, no return to this birth. This world is named precisely. It is the abode of unhappiness, transient. The great-souled do not come back to it. They have attained the highest. The phrase is sober. He does not flatter the world by calling it more than what it is. He does not promise a return to it as a reward. The reward for reaching Him is to be done with it. This is honest in a way that gentler teachings sometimes are not. The man who reads this and does not yet feel the world to be the abode of unhappiness has more to suffer before the verse begins to weigh.
