Chapter 8Verse 7 of 28

Bhagavad Gita 8.7

तस्मात्सर्वेषु कालेषु मामनुस्मर युध्य च | मय्यर्पितमनोबुद्धिर्मामेवैष्यस्यसंशयः ||

tasmāt sarveṣu kāleṣu mām anusmara yudhya ca | mayy arpita-mano-buddhir mām evaiṣyasy asaṁśayaḥ ||

Translation

Therefore at all times remember me, and engage in battle. With mind and understanding fixed on me, you will come to me, free from doubt.

The instruction follows the principle. Since the last thought is the residue of a lifetime's thinking, remember Him at all times. Then the battle order. Engage in the fight. Fix mind and understanding on Him. You will come to Him. Two things sit together that the world usually separates. Remembering the divine, and doing the work in front of you. Most spiritual instructions try to thin the work. Krishna leaves the work intact and adds the remembering to it. The two are not in competition. The man who fights with his mind on Him is doing both at once. Arjuna's particular task is battle. Yours is whatever is set before you.

Reflection

What in your work would change if you held both at once today?
