bhīṣma-droṇa-pramukhataḥ sarveṣāṃ ca mahī-kṣitām | uvāca pārtha paśyaitān samavetān kurūn iti ||
Translation
In front of Bhishma, Drona, and all the rulers of the earth, he said: O Partha, behold these Kurus assembled.
Reflection
What one word about the people you're fighting against would change everything?
Read this verse in its chapter: Chapter One
Paśya. Etān. Kurūn. Look. At these. Kurus. Krishna names them by the family name. Not enemies. Not Duryodhana's men. Kurus. In one word he flips the frame Arjuna walked in with. The category Arjuna was using to keep his hands steady, those eager to please an evil-minded king, gets replaced with a single family noun. From here on, Arjuna will not be able to see them any other way.
