Bhagavad Gita 10.13
आहुस्त्वामृषयः सर्वे देवर्षिर्नारदस्तथा | असितो देवलो व्यासः स्वयं चैव ब्रवीषि मे ||
āhus tvām ṛṣayaḥ sarve devarṣir nāradas tathā | asito devalo vyāsaḥ svayaṁ caiva bravīṣi me ||
Translation
All the seers say so of you, including the divine seer Nārada, and Asita, Devala, and Vyāsa. You yourself also tell me so.
Reflection
Whose witness joins yours to give your recognition its second leg?
Read this verse in its chapter: Chapter Ten
Arjuna places his own recognition inside a longer line. He names the seers who have already spoken in this way of Krishna. Narada, Asita, Devala, Vyasa. And then he adds the most direct evidence. Krishna Himself has been saying so. The verse models the right epistemology for a student in this position. He is not relying on his own moment of recognition alone. He is corroborating it against the authoritative line of those who came before him. And he is corroborating it finally against the speaker's own testimony. Faith here is not personal certainty held in isolation. It is one strand inside a much older rope. The chapter is showing how to listen even as it teaches what to listen to. Both halves of the work are being done at once.
