द्यूतं छलयतामस्मि तेजस्तेजस्विनामहम् | जयोऽस्मि व्यवसायोऽस्मि सत्त्वं सत्त्ववतामहम् ||
dyūtaṁ chalayatām asmi tejas tejasvinām aham | jayo'smi vyavasāyo'smi sattvaṁ sattvavatām aham ||
Translation
Among the deceitful I am gambling. Among the brilliant, brilliance. I am victory. I am resolve. Among the truthful, truth.

Five more, the most surprising verse in the catalogue. Among the practices of the deceitful, gambling. Among the brilliant, brilliance itself. Victory. Resolve. And among those of sattva, sattva itself. The placement of gambling will trouble the reader who wants the catalogue to read only as a list of pieties. Krishna does not allow that reading. The chief form within any kind is His, and the kind of cleverness that gambling represents has a chief form too. The verse is not a moral endorsement. It is a description of what the catalogue means when it says vibhuti. Brilliance among the brilliant, sattva among the sattvic, are the inward placements. Resolve and victory complete a small cluster that any actor in the world can reach for. Even Arjuna in his hesitation can recognise the form here named.
