Chapter 2Verse 61 of 72

Bhagavad Gita 2.61

तानि सर्वाणि संयम्य युक्त आसीत मत्परः । वशे हि यस्येन्द्रियाणि तस्य प्रज्ञा प्रतिष्ठिता ॥

tāni sarvāṇi saṃyamya yukta āsīta mat-paraḥ | vaśe hi yasyendriyāṇi tasya prajñā pratiṣṭhitā ||

Translation

Restraining all of these, the disciplined one should sit, focused on me. The understanding of one whose senses are under control is established.

The stabilizer. Mat-paraḥ. Focused on me. The mind, which sense-organs carry off forcibly, finds steadiness when there is a single object large enough to hold the attention. Krishna names the technique without elaboration here, because chapters six through twelve will return to it at length. Yukta āsīta. Sit disciplined. Sit with focus. Notice the verb: āsīta, sit. The verse names the inner work as something a body does, in posture, in time. The conviction comes from sitting; the sitting is steadied by the focus.

Reflection

What single thing, sat with daily, would your day reorganize around?
