Bhagavad Gita 9.8
प्रकृतिं स्वामवष्टभ्य विसृजामि पुनः पुनः | भूतग्राममिमं कृत्स्नमवशं प्रकृतेर्वशात् ||
prakṛtiṁ svām avaṣṭabhya visṛjāmi punaḥ punaḥ | bhūta-grāmam imaṁ kṛtsnam avaśaṁ prakṛter vaśāt ||
Translation
Resting on my own prakṛti, I send forth again and again this whole multitude of beings, helpless under the sway of prakṛti.
Reflection
Where in your life are you swayed by forces you did not choose?
Read this verse in its chapter: Chapter Nine
How the emanation happens. Krishna rests on His own prakriti and sends forth the whole multitude of beings repeatedly. The beings themselves are helpless, swayed by prakriti's own force. Two layers of agency are at work. Krishna stands as the one who lets prakriti move; prakriti, once moving, carries the beings along. The verse is careful with avasham, helpless. The beings inside the system have no independent purchase against the system's own logic. Liberation cannot come from inside prakriti's mechanism. It has to come from the one who stands behind it. This is why the chapter pivots on devotion. Recognizing the source is the lever that prakriti's mechanism itself does not contain.
